DESIGNING PROFESSIONAL SOCCER IN VIRGINIA BEACH

Virginia Beach City Football Club is a professional soccer team that competes in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

The NPSL is considered the 4th tier of the American soccer pyramid. Virginia Beach City FC, or VB City FC, plays its home matches at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, the first soccer-specific stadium built from the ground up in the United States.

In 2013, VB City FC commissioned me to lead its branding efforts ahead of its inaugural season in 2014.

THE BADGE

Nicknamed “Neptune City,” Virginia Beach has many ties to the Roman God — most notably, the 34-foot cast bronze Neptune statue that can be found at the boardwalk, overlooking Neptune’s Park. Neptune is, of course, holding his famous trident.

Navy blue and gold were appropriate for the city that is home to one of the United States’ biggest naval bases. The insignia that recognizes Navy SEALs is a gold trident.
